Park in the paved municipal lot at Balneario del Escambrón ($5/day). Walk 150 yards north across the shaded green lawn toward the protected crescent bay. The best entry point is the shallow sandy cove directly in front of the coral blocks, protected by an outer rock breakwater.

🐢 Resident Green Sea Turtle Encounter Tips

Escambrón is famous for its resident population of juvenile Green Sea Turtles (*Chelonia mydas*) and Hawksbill Turtles (*Eretmochelys imbricata*). Swim slowly over the shallow seagrass bed between the breakwater and the outer reef wall during early morning hours (8:00 AM – 10:30 AM) when water clarity is highest and boat traffic is minimal.

⚠️ Safety Gate & DRNA Protected Reserve Rules

• Sea Urchins: Long-spined black sea urchins (*Diadema antillarum*) inhabit rock crevices around the breakwater. Avoid stepping on exposed rocks.
• Outer Surge Warning: Do not swim outside the breakwater barrier during high winter swells without fins and open-water experience.
• No-Take Zone: DRNA Protected Marine Reserve. No spearfishing, line fishing, or collecting coral or shells. Maintain 10+ feet distance from sea turtles.
